theDesk is proud to present The Contemplation Garden: Sai Wan Shapes & Sounds in collaboration with artists Elaine Wong and Victor Chu of local art collective, Altermodernists
‘The Contemplation Garden’ is running between Friday September 1 and Friday October 13 is running in our space in Sai Wan. It’s the fifth exhibition we’ve held here over the past year and it follows on from the hugely successful ‘Sai Wan Buildings: There’s Nobody Home’ exhibition which featured the work of Urban Fragments, a collective of four photographers from across Hong Kong who are dedicated to preserving the memory of forgotten spaces that are just on the cusp of disappearing forever.
These displays shout out about our ‘neighbourhood ethos’ – where theDesk supports its surrounding communities in Western District and connects its members with businesses and people in Sai Ying Pun, Shek Tong Tsui and Kennedy Town.
Chu will be exhibiting seven to eight of his smaller 2D works, while Wong will be showing five to six of her multimedia video works, centered around the shapes and sounds of Sai Wan. Together, the artists simply want people to ‘stay for a while, have their own time to think and cool down.’ “It will be a very quiet exhibition,” the two concur, with its main aim being to create a space for contemplation and thought. To meet the artists and experience the artwork for yourself, come join us at the opening of ‘The Contemplation Garden’ tomorrow night, from 7 – 9PM.
