An array of artistic masterpieces were created at theDesk on Saturday February 25 as part of a massive citywide charity creative campaign. The 1000 Drawings Hong Kong event at our co-working and events space was a huge success, with more than 50 people coming in over five hours to put pens, pencils and paintbrushes to paper in a bid to raise cash for the Love 21 Foundation, which is dedicated to bettering the lives of people who are living with Down Syndrome and autism in Hong Kong through physical activity and nutrition.

Saturday’s event was one of a handful which have been taking place at venues across the city in the run-up to Saturday April 1, which is The Night of 1000 Drawings at The Hive Central. This is where the artworks created at the earlier events are hung up on washing lines and sold to the public, with the cash raised going to the Love 21 Foundation. A washing line was hung up at theDesk on Saturday, displaying the eye-catching pieces which the artists at our event created on the day. To date, the group has collected more than 500 A5-sized pieces of original art. The theme on Saturday was the Chinese zodiac, with a particular focus, for obvious reasons, on the rooster.

The 1000 Drawings movement began a decade ago in Johannesburg, South Africa, and has spread across the world ever since, being held regularly in places like Munich, Germany, and Tuscany, Italy. The new Hong Kong arm of 1000 Drawings launched a few months ago. Philippa Ho and Christine Wong, who own Kalacove, a pattern and textiles company in Hong Kong, are the co-organisers of the Hong Kong group. For more details on the other events in the 1000 Drawings Hong Kong calendar, check out their Facebook page.
